The downside of knowing these engines and their control systems is that you can spend forever speculating as to the cause of some odd behavior, esp. something as generic as a stumble or hesitation. If you've ruled out the obvious stuff like boost/vac leaks, clogged PCVs, busted IACV, etc., it's useful to hook up a Conzult or something similar and do a few runs while logging the sensor data. Being able to see what the ECU sees when it starts acting up is invaluable. Weird crap like TPS voltages not aligning with what you test at the sensor due to connection/harness/wiring issues, or the closed-throttle switch signaling when you're actually running light throttle.
